That point in the semester when you’re halfway there and you’re having a mid-semester crisis. There’s the confusion, wanting to drop out, the horror, the feeling of being constantly overwhelmed, and the huge sense of accomplishment at the end.

Study hard, study often. Don’t only memorize something for the test but be able to apply the definitions and the concepts that you learned into the test. This is something that I’ve learned in my science classes, but this is definitely something that I still struggle with.

Don’t rely on coffee or energy drinks to get you through these hard times. For one, it’s not very healthy to be drinking energy drinks constantly and two, eight hours of sleep would help you way more than an energy drink or coffee could.

Make study groups with some friends in your classes. This is literally how I am surviving Spanish right now. There’s so much grammar and vocabulary to learn so it’s good to make study groups to help each other out. My Spanish class constantly has something due like online homework, textbook homework, quizzes every week, an exam for what seems like every other week, a surprise presentation a poster project, etc. Life can be crazy but don't do it all alone.

While it’s important to stay on top of your work and be productive it’s also important to take a mental break. This is super hard for me to do because I’ve always been the type of person that I can’t really rest until I have a project or an assignment completed. Yes, I admit it I am kind of a perfectionist but how can I not be when school is my life?

Here are some inspirational quotes for getting back to the grind:

“No matter how you feel; get up, dress up, and never give up.”

“Great things never came from comfort zones”

“If it was easy, everyone would do it.”

“Some people dream of success. Others stay awake to achieve it.”

The word “mantra” can be defined as, “that which protects the mind.” It’s basically a statement repeated frequently to help boost concentration in meditation. Say any or all of these mantras a couple of times a day while looking at yourself in the mirror. Be confident.

Here are some mantras:

I can do this.

I am doing enough.

Failure is a necessary step towards achieving my goals.

I will forgive myself because I love myself.

And finally, go ace this semester because you got this! Finish this semester strong!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
