Following the announcement that Trump had won the presidency, a lot of people were surprised. The Associated Press, Princeton Election Consortium, FiveThirtyEight, NBC News, NPR, The Washington Post, and ABC News all gave Hillary Clinton the best chance to win the election. Even many of Trump’s own supporters weren’t confident that he would win. But one man was not surprised: local resident Patrick Holder
“Yeah, I told everyone he was gonna win,” Holder commented. “I was like, ‘Hey, I bet you five bucks that Trump becomes president. Well, look who’s laughing now.” Holder did not indicate who was laughing previously.
Holder told reporters that he spent the night of the election at a party, so he did not collect his winnings (a total of $5) until the next day. When asked how he would spend his money, Holder responded, “Uh, I don’t know.” He explained that it is not enough money to buy a whole dinner, so he may use it for a tip. However, he is not committing to anything.
We reached out to some friends of Holder to get some insight into his predictions. One friend said, “I bet him that Hillary would win because I knew he didn’t follow politics at all. I wouldn’t have done it if I had known he would start acting like this.”
Apparently, ‘this’ meant the predictions Holder continues to make. Some of his friends admitted that Holder has tried to make more bets on everything from high school sports to how much time is left on the microwave, to which they’ve all refused. However, that hasn’t stopped Holder. Now, he’s telling fortunes.
“He told me I would get a new job in a month,” a second friend said.
“He said that someone close to me would die this year,” his third and final friend said, seeming agitated.
While Holder said that he's not sure if he's psychic, he claimed that he "for sure [is], like, telepathic maybe."
Those wishing to receive fortunes can go to the tables outside of the local Dairy Queen, where he will be from 4 p.m. — 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is five dollars for one fortune and $15 for a couple’s fortune. (Holder described a couple’s fortune as “like, you know, if you’re gonna get married and junk.”)
Holder also revealed that he would be soon making a prediction on the 2016 World Series. Although reporters tried to explain to him that the Cubs won the 2016 World Series, Holder laughed and replied, “No, it won’t be that. I’m not an idiot.”
