Makeup is a big thing in today’s society. Everywhere you look, there's some sort of makeup culture, whether it's the abundance of makeup stores or someone with killer eyeliner. Makeup is a part of day to day life.
Some people prefer to wear a lot of makeup, and some prefer to wear none at all. Some prefer a nice mix of the two. I personally wear light makeup every day. It's a choice that many people make. However, some don't understand this.
There's a crazy notion in today’s world that any person wearing makeup is doing so to impress you, or maybe because they're insecure. People actually believe that someone wearing makeup only does it because they want to impress the people around them.
Granted, some people do. Some people want others to look at them and think, “wow, their makeup looks super good today.” I know whenever I do my makeup well, I want others to acknowledge it. If my highlight is popping, I want everyone to know it.
It's natural to want to look good. It's natural to say that you want to make an effort for a day or maybe even all the time. There will always be times that you want to put a little extra effort into your appearance.
However, this isn't the only reason people wear makeup. Makeup is so much fun to do. You can do anything you want with some brushes and some colors. You can turn yourself into another person. You can do everything you can imagine and more.
More than that, the physical act of doing makeup is so calming. The feeling of a brush over your skin is so therapeutic, and it's one of the ways I help combat my anxiety. The world melts away when you're doing makeup and all you're left with is the look you are trying to accomplish.
So no, people don't wear makeup to impress you. Or at least, that's not the only reason. Makeup is great, and anyone who does it has a gift, no matter if they've just started or if they've been doing it for years. Makeup takes skill and concentration, and saying that someone only does it to look good for you is an insult to their hard work.
