Trying to wear a full face of makeup in the summer heat, especially in Texas, is worse than being bucked off of your favorite pet horse in the Whataburger drive-thru, another typical struggle of many Texans.

For girls (and guys who like a little coverage), wearing liquid foundation is a complete nightmare when the 105 degree weather and the cloudless sky pair up with the beating sun to create your own personal hell. Humidity is a whole other animal. Mississippi, honey, I'm sorry.

Lately, we've all been trying to go for a dewy glow with a subtle highlight, but in the summer, that dewy glow is really just a sweaty, oily finish, and everyone can tell. Thankfully, there are several ways to avoid this heat-induced tragedy.

1. Skincare.

Beauty bloggers and YouTubers have been beating you over the head with "SKINCARE SKINCARE SKINCARE" for years, and you're sick and tired of it, I know, but to dial down the oil production this is where we have to start. Right before you do your makeup, use a cleanser that fits your skin type, but is strong enough that it leaves your skin feeling fully cleansed. Apply an oil-free, noncomedogenic moisturizer right after. Starting with a fresh face will always help keep oil in check.

2. Stop using gel primer.

it just adds another layer of grease to your face! if you moisturized properly, you can go without it during the sweaty times!

3. Use powder products!

A liquid foundation may be ideal for coverage, but using powder will slow the unwanted ~dewy glow~ by absorbing sweat and oil! If you absolutely must wear liquid foundation, use setting powder, or use a powder foundation over the top of it. Use powder blush, contour, and highlight instead of cream or liquid.

4. Setting spray to the rescue...

Use an anti-oil setting spray as a primer! Spray it onto your face after moisturizing and before applying foundation(and after) to prime and set your makeup instead of gel primers.

5. Cool down.

Face the breeze, find a fan (or bring one), pack an ice water, and maybe even wear a hat? The cooler you are the less you'll sweat.

6. Always be prepared!

Bring your supplies. Oil blotting sheets, setting spray, and setting powder must stay in your bag at all times!

7. Get a routine.

Find your own natural "no-makeup-makeup" routine so you feel confident and cute in the summer without caking it on! It may not be your usual glam, full coverage look, but wearing less is sometimes more! My go-to outdoor-in-the-heat look is a light coat of Mac fix powder, blush, coconut oil on the lips, light mascara, a little swipe of Fenty Beauty trophy wife on the lids, and light brow pencil.

Here are some products I love to keep my face feeling fresh and clean during the summertime:

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
