For as long as I can remember, my family and I have been going away to Maine to visit our vacation home and it never gets old! I look at Maine as my second home and I really want to share five reasons why Maine is my home away from home.

1. The memories

I can't remember a time in my life where my family wasn't going to Maine. We've made so many memories with our neighbors and with each other. One of my favorite memories is going on a walk with our neighbors to the Wetlands.

2. Fishing

While spending so much time in Maine, I was able to pick up a new hobby. Fishing has become one of my favorite hobbies especially up in Maine! I was able to go fishing with one of our neighbors and we became fishing buddies. He was such a great fisher and I learned so many great fishing tips from him!

3. Visiting the lakes

Being able to visit all the lakes of Maine is always a fun time and I always enjoy doing it every time we swing by them!

4. The beaches

Maine has so many nice beaches and It's always one of my favorite things to do when we visit. I think anyone from Maine can agree with me that Maine beaches are the best!

5. The small-town feel

I've always enjoyed the atmosphere of Maine, especially for its small-town feel. Very quiet and relaxing... The best place to visit when wanting to have a relaxing vacation.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
