8 Thoughts That Run Through Your Head When You're The Maid of Honor

She's your ride-or-die, your A-1 since day one, the peanut butter to your jelly. You all know who she is, she's your best friend. She’s the one you can turn to on your worst days and the one you can share your best days with. No matter how long you’ve been together it was always you two against the world, you’ve shared tears and laughter, been through countless boyfriends and breakups and were each other’s human pillows on late nights when all you wanted to do was sloth it out on the couch with some Netflix. Then, the day comes when you’re sitting down together and you see the magnificent ring sitting on her left hand and you realize that this party of two has just grown to three.

Being a Maid of Honor is a roller coaster of fun and relaxing days to stressing right alongside the bride as you try and help out with last minute DIY decorations. In between the whirlwind of events that lead up to the wedding, here are some guaranteed thoughts that run through every M.O.H.s mind.

1.“OMG! YAY!"

In all honesty, it's hard to remember exactly what goes through your mind when you're best friend tells you she's getting married, but you're pretty sure it looked something along the lines of this.

2. “The only thing I need in my life is this tub of cookie dough ice-cream.”

Your best friend is getting married and you’re struggling to even properly take care of your cactus much less nurture a relationship. You slightly question where your priorities are in life but then, you go back to binge watching Supernatural episodes.

3.“ I had a dream again that I forgot to order the bridesmaids dresses.”

You're still trying to maintain a normal social life while helping out your best friend plan her dream wedding, all the while still planning the bridal shower and the bachelorette party. Your google calendar consist of floral appointments and caterer phone numbers, while your phone has about 50 pictures from Pinterest because your best friend is determined to DIY half her wedding.

4. "This looked so much easier on Pinterest."

Oh, Pinterest, a very deceiving site that can trick you into thinking anything is possible in the world of DIY. You end up spending the better part of a Friday night with a hot glue gun and some ribbon with the intent of decorating wine bottles and mason jars and two days later you have successfully decorated one…with 11 more to go.

5. "Holy cannoli the shower is tomorrow..."

…and you still have over two dozen cupcakes to bake, you’re gift you ordered in the mail hasn’t come in yet and you forgot to send her grandmother’s invitation out last month. Planning a shower can put you into system overload, it’s easy to forget a few things in the process.

6. "A vodka tonic at 10 a.m. sounds like the right move."

The last hoorah with your girl, the bachelorette party. No boys allowed and the girls get to have their relaxing (or crazy) night out. Who knows what kind of trouble you all got in to while you were away because what happens at the bachelorette party stays at the bachelorette party.

7. "What do I even say?!"

You’ve gone through some pivotal moments in each other’s lives. You’ve lived through some hilarious and embarrassing moments that you want to share with everyone, but sometimes you can't fit all of those adventures into an under five minute speech and other times those memories are a bit too crazy and embarrassing to be saying in front of grandma and grandpa.

8.

No GIF or picture could possibly explain this moment for you. At this point, time freezes. This is it, this is the moment. When you see your best friend walk down the aisle you let all thoughts go. You’re not thinking about that uncomfortable pinch from your heels and any thoughts of last minute to-dos are gone. All that is left is just watching her and seeing her smile and glow as she takes those final steps towards the happiest moment of her life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
