We all have moments where we just look in the mirror and frown at who is in the reflection. It may not be everyday or even every month. But no matter the amount, it does happen. No one on this planet has perfect self esteem. We judge ourselves. We compare ourselves. We dislike ourselves. It's what humans do. As sad as it is, we can hate ourselves even though we are alive and breathing. Even though it is extraordinary in itself that we are here, we can hate ourselves. Hear this: when you feel like that, choose in that very moment to love yourself.
Next time you find yourself doubting and wishing you were someone else, put an end to those thoughts by saying, "I am in this beautiful, breathing body and I love it. I love myself." Even if you don't believe it at first, just continue saying it. Why? Because it is so true.
God put you in your body. He created you with every bit of love you can imagine. You are His work. God looks at you with the most loving eyes. So you should look at yourself in the same way.
I wish I could say that there will be a time when you will never hate yourself again. Who knows, maybe there will be a time. But for most of us, that is impossible. I accept the fact that there will be inevitable times when I feel down about myself. But I also remember that I shouldn't. God loves me. That is more than enough.
It is an awful thing that humans find it to be nearly impossible to be 100% happy with ourselves. There is always an unspoken form of competition that we feel. It's the competition to be the most beautiful, smartest, and the most successful. It's not that we want to be apart of this competition, but it's hard to break away from it because we compete in our everyday lives. When someone walks by who is gorgeous or when someone lands the role that you wanted, there is unhappiness and hate in ourselves.
Yes, it's hard to break away from that competition and it's likely you'll be sucked into it time to time. But it is possible. No one wants to be in it and no one has to be. All you have to do is love yourself for you are created by God. It's not easy to smile at your reflection all the time, but it's what you deserve.
