If you had to list what you love most in your life, whether that be family, friends, or material objects, would yourself be on that list? Think about it.
It is very easy in today’s media driven society, to name negative aspects of yourself that you would change. To look like the model, actress/actor, or famous social media influencer you idolize. I’ve fallen into the trap of wishing I could change certain things about myself, and unfortunately altering the way I live my life with the hopes of achieving these unrealistic “goals." I say “goals” because a goal is an achievement you wish to make that enhances the quality of your life. It is NOT something you work for out of self-loathing and unhappiness.
Before you set a goal for yourself relating to your image or appearance, you need to be at peace with where you are currently. Be happy and proud of the body you have. It is strong and capable of great things. Learning to love yourself, imperfections and all, is difficult but absolutely essential. Your “imperfections” could be someone else’s favorite part about you. Ever think of that?
Make a pact to practice self love each day. Do something you love. Allot 10 minutes in the morning or at night for reflection. Silence the outside noise and focus only on you. Take a bath, read a book, journal (10/10 highly recommend), or have your favorite treat (chocolate always). Make yourself and your happiness a priority not only this week but every day, week, month, and year.
Don’t let society dictate who you are. Be proud and most importantly, love yourself!!
