5 Ways To Love Yourself

Loving others is easy, but loving yourself can be incredibly hard

I’ve learned that you need to be able to love yourself before you can love others. It’s not selfish at ALL to love yourself. Unfortunately, this isn’t the same thing as “treating yourself” (trust me, I wish). Loving yourself means to have self-respect, a positive self-image, and just loving who you are, without being conceited. This is one of the hardest things in the world to do, but it is so worth it in the end. Just remember that you’re amazing for who you are and always be yourself!!!

1. Wake up and tell yourself you are awesome… because you are

I believe that the first thought you have in the morning sets the tone for your day. If it’s positive, it’s going to be a good day! If it’s negative, it won’t be the best day in the world. When waking up in the morning, think of how awesome you are, or how you are going to do something great that day. Starting your day off like this will change your perspective drastically.

2. Do something that makes you happy

Life isn’t meant to be awful. We are supposed to be happy. So, if watching Netflix makes you happy, watch some Netflix! If running makes you happy, go for a run! Doing something that will bring you joy is like treating yourself without spending money. When you’re happy, you will likely not want to hate on yourself.

3. For every negative thing you think about yourself, come up with three positive things

My parents used this concept for me and my siblings if we were ever rude to each other. For example, if my brother said something mean to my sister, my parents would make him say three nice things about her. I’m taking this concept and applying it to ourselves. When you think something negative about yourself, for example, if you don’t like your hair, you have to think three nice things about yourself. Having this positivity will help you start to think more positive things about yourself.

4. Write a note on your mirror that you will see every morning

Writing a positive note like “you’re awesome” or “you look good” will remind you of how great you are. You will see it frequently when you are brushing your teeth or doing your hair. The constant reminder will help you remember how great you are, and you will love yourself more.

5. Go to sleep and tell yourself you are awesome…because you are

Starting and ending the day loving yourself will bring more positivity into your life and will help you love yourself more. Telling yourself you are awesome before bed will end your day on a good note and give you the jump start to have an even better day the next day.It may seem crazy, but try it out!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
