"Deli Gallery is pleased to announce Love You Coz You Always Tell the Truth, the first solo exhibition of interdisciplinary artist Brianna Rose Brooks."

She is poetic, honest, and so so so tender.

Brianna Rose Brooks grew up in Providence, RI. She moved to Chicago for college, and just had her first solo art exhibit in NY!

Brianna is an interdisciplinary artist and a childhood friend. I have been a spectator of her art since the first time I met her. I remember being seniors in high school, trying to figure out what to do next. We were both black girls in Providence, RI trying to figure out where to go because we knew we couldn't stay. When I first saw Brianna's art, it immediately stood out. She uses different mediums and color schemes to express herself in a very personal and beautifully chaotic way.

The exhibit was titled "Love You Coz You Always Tell the Truth" at the Deli Gallery on the border of Queens and Long Island City. It was open from March 4th-25th and Saturdays and Sundays from 12-5pm. There were a total of 19 pieces on the wall, ranging from mixed media pieces, drawings, sketches, prints, and paintings. I was lucky enough to attend the last weekend it was open.

The place where, I think, you really get to know Brianna Rose Brooks as an artist and human being, is through her eight personal journals; the journals were centered on a desk in the middle of the exhibit. These journals date back years ago to Brianna’s teenage self, moving from Providence to Chicago, to now. I recognized one sketchbook. It's green with Chiquita banana stickers on it. Brianna always had this sketchbook with her in high school and I'm so glad I finally got the chance to look through it! I always wanted to. She is currently studying in Chicago, but still uses journals as one way to express herself artistically.

"Providence is my home. It is the place where I first developed a deep love for art-making long before I considered it a profession, as a means to heal and grow. when social anxiety makes communication difficult for me, art becomes a way to articulate what words can't."

-Brianna Rose Brooks

“Love You Coz You Always Tell The Truth” felt like my childhood in Providence, my transition from adolescent to adulthood, and everything (good and bad) that came along with it. Brianna’s art is full of Providence, bright colors, blackness, memories, and growth. She is poetic, honest, and so so so tender.

There you have it, kids! My favorite artist is Brianna Rose Brooks and she’s from Providence, RI. Her exhibit, “Love You Coz You Always Tell The Truth,” is over now but Brianna’s grind never stops!! You can follow her on Instagram and on her store and personal website.

S/O to Brianna Rose Brooks, Deli Gallery, and Providence, RI!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
