Everyone knows Lush as the “bath bombs” place or simply as the store at the mall that “smells really good.” But if you’re like me, you might describe Lush Cosmetics as the best effing place to work at, EVER.
My first couple of jobs included some stereotypical ones, particularly in food service. I blame both establishments I was employed at for killing what little soul I still had at the time.
July of last year, I went to my local Lush to turn in my five pots for a free fresh face mask, and after talking to a staff member (shout out to Jesse!) about working at the shop while washing those same pots in the sink (oops, PSA clean your pots, peeps!), I thought, why the hell not? I was already a dedicated Lushie, and working there would be the icing on the cake. After a fun and interactive interview process, I got the job! I was so psyched, and I instantly fell in love with everything the company stands for!
Everything in the products is ethically sourced, so Lush carefully chooses its providers of various ingredients such as fresh fruits veggies, herbs, and oils through a pretty lengthy process of selection. But this same process is what they’re so proud of; no bs, nothing they wouldn’t want to put their name behind.
Another thing: it’s all CRUELTY FREE! This is something very important to me personally. *COUGH, COUGH* I'M VEGAN, ANIMAL RIGHTS, GOLD STAR FOR ME, AMIRITE.
But yes! Cruelty-Free means absolutely no animals testing, a honesty that’s so hard to find in a cosmetics company these days.
Did I mention that everything, and I mean everything in the shop is lovingly handmade by real people? No, not by a sales ambassador like me, but the hardworking souls that work in our "Lush Kitchen."
They put their heart and soul into making our soaps, bath-bombs, hair care, shower products, cleansers, etc. That’s why there’s a beautiful little face on pretty much everything you buy in the shop!
One of the reasons I love Lush is how much we love music! Our founder Mark Constantine’s appreciation for it is quite easily found in things such as the names of the products such as the Beatles reference in the name of the “Stawberry Feels Forever” Massage Bar; the tribute to R.E.M in the gift set named, “Shiny Happy People;” Sympathy for The Skin Lotion, which takes after “Sympathy For The Devil” by The Stones; the It's Raining Men Shower Gel, named after the infamous song by The Weather Girls; and of course, Plum Rain Shower Gel, inspired by Prince's Purple Rain, just to name a few!
On top of everything, Lush teams up with a variety of different grassroots charities that support the companie’s values and causes close to our hearts, and 100% of the proceeds of products such as our infamous Charity Pot Lotion, go towards further supporting and helping these organizations and communities.
Lush stands for a lot of truly honorable standards, which is what makes us sales ambassadors so glad to have the job we have.
My co-workers are pretty dope people too – shout out to you guys!
Most people think we're "overbearing," "annoying," that we're on commission, or just trying to get a sale out of customer.
BUT the reality is: welove helping people. And we genuinely enjoy doing it. We love making you feel beautiful and we love seeing the joy our Lush goodies bring our customers. We’re proud of what goes into our products and we’re proud of what we do.
That’s why it’s low-key kinda bumming when people walk in and are somewhat defensive or instantly shy away right off the bat. I mean, those feelings are totally justified, but... Let us help youuuuu! Ask us questions! We're here to help! Trust me, we’re honestly just glad to have you in the shop!
