Why I Love Michelle Obama

She'll continue to teach us valuable lessons even after she leaves the White House.

Why I Love Michelle Obama
Daily News One

As we all know, Barack Obama's presidency is coming to an end and that's something not many people are looking forward to. Fortunately, we were lucky to have Michelle Obama as our First Lady for the last eight years and it's really going to be sad to see her go.

There are many reasons to love Michelle Obama, some of which include her confidence, her style, her passion for giving back, speaking her mind, and taking care of and raising her family. She has a long list of amazing quotes and I decided to share a few just to remind us of who we are and who we can be with some confidence and inspiration.

1. "Always stay true to yourself and never let what somebody else says distract you from your goals."

Our First Lady has repeatedly taught us to never give up on our dreams no matter who says what. It's our dream, our life, and if we want it, we should chase after it because if we don't, someone else will.

2. "Success isn't about how much money you make, it's about the difference you make in people's lives."

Michelle Obama tells us that money isn't everything. If you're making a difference and making no money, so what? If you're helping change someone's life for the better, you're successful. For example, volunteering at homeless shelters cooking meals isn't making you any money, but it's making a huge difference to many people, therefore you are successful.

3. "You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world's problems at once but don't ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own."

She's literally telling us that we should never underestimate ourselves and our capabilities. We're much more than we could ever imagine and sometimes just going for it doesn't hurt.

4. Choose people who lift you up."

If the people around you aren't helping you become a better version of yourself and directing you in the right direction, they're just bringing you down. Stick with those who want the best for you and encourage you to give it your all no matter what it is you choose to do in life.

5. "Ultimately this issue is on us. We're the ones who make the decisions about what our kids eat."

Another very important topic is that of food. In America, obesity is ridiculous. It needs to be controlled and the only way to do that is parents watching their kids and what they eat. If they're going to feed their kids McDonald's Big Macs everyday then of course, obesity is going to be crazy.

Michelle Obama has taught us countless lessons in the last eight years and honestly, I've learned a lot from her. She's a role model for me and she continues to inspire me. I hope to continue to learn more from her even after she's no longer the First Lady of the United States.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
