12 Things I Love About Living Off Campus
Raven Bowman

A lot of people believe living off campus is too expensive. I have found that if you have a roommate and just split the cost, it is significantly cheaper than living in the dorms. The dorms are too crowded and you don't even have your own bathroom. Life is what you make it and I want to live my life off-campus.

Pets

Who doesn't want a snuggle buddy.

No visitation hours

If you want to have your friend stay the night, you don't have to have them fill out a form 48 hours prior.

You can live with your boyfriend

My college does not have co-ed living arrangements.

It is cheaper

After splitting the rent with my boyfriend, the cost was much cheaper compared to living on campus.

You have your own kitchen

You get to make any kind of food you want. You can have a stove and not have to use a microwave for all food.

You have freedom

You can do what you want (within reason) and not have to worry about your neighbors really complaining.

Showering is peaceful

You can shower in your own bathroom! You don't have to see all the leftover hair other people left in the shower before you.

Less social interaction

No need to wake up to and see 5 other girls before your morning pee and being forced to say good morning.

Driving to class

You can park in the areas designated for commuter students.

You don't have to move out for the summer

You can stay there every day if you want!

You can decorate how you please

And keep it up all year if you want.

No fire drills

Which means you can actually sleep at night.

After living in my apartment for almost a year, I am so glad that I took the chance because it is one of the best things I have done for myself. I am also glad that I don't have to move my stuff out every year, I can just focus on finals.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
