Dear Autumn,
Allow me to be one of the many who openly praises you. While each season is valued and important in their own ways, you, Fall, simply rise above the rest. You give us the wonders of a world changing from Summer to Winter, without you the transition would be swift and shocking.
I was able to have the experience of watching someone carve a pumpkin for the first time. Their excitement and joy at your common activity is one of life’s simple joys. It is only fate that pumpkins are at their ripest when you come around. Pumpkins truly are your mascot, what with jack o'lanterns, Halloween decorations, and pumpkin-spiced everything. Fall, you would not be the same without the simple goard.
Which brings me to your two greatest celebrations: Halloween and Thanksgiving. Halloween, beloved by all, is a spooky festival of frights. Nothing is better than childhood memories of running through the streets, dressed up in a costume, to try and get some sweet treats. Even when the night air is too cold and your feet hurt from traveling for too long, the moments are still preciously preserved. Thanksgiving is even more joyous, since you don’t have to leave your house to partake in it. Between the Macy’s Day Parade and the local football game, Thanksgiving could successfully take place on the comfort of your couch, as long as the spot next to you is filled with a loved one.
Regardless if it’s October or November, once the leaves start to change, you embrace us with your chilly air. When the wind outside howls, you silently encourage us to put on a fire, curl up on the couch, and watch Netflix or read a book. Whether our drink of choice is tea, coffee, or hot chocolate, it’s always warms our bodies with the pleasantness that can only be brought forth with your cold fronts.
As I curl up on my bed, watching the yellow leaves outside my window sway, I take a sip of tea and thank you once again, Fall, for being a part of my year.
Yours,
A Simple Fall-lover
