For the most part, I hate where I'm from. I tell everyone that. Like who would be proud to be from the first state to secede from the union?
Certainly not me. I'll never be able to say that I'm from some big city or from anywhere remotely exciting for that matter. Like I truly have so much hatred for my home state of South Carolina.
BUT my favorite part of living here, the reason all the northerners come here for "vacation" or college or retirement. Basically, the only reason this state has any tourism at all. Obviously, I'm referring to the weather.
Last year, it was the same temperature at both or our student organization fairs. Keep in mind that was in August and one was in January. Here in South Carolina we basically on have two seasons, Summer and Winter.
My favorite thing about our winters is that I've never seen a blizzard. We don't really experience negative temperatures here. It gets cold but it doesn't get wear seven layers of clothes cold. When we say winter we maybe 30s but hopefully no lower than that.
We may get snow three times in the winter but that would be a bit extreme. Usually, it's once or not at all. And by snow, we mean a dusting maybe two or three inches. Not the crazy six feet that the people up north deal with. We don't really do shovels or snow plows down here either.
I love that most of the year is summer. I get to wear shorts and sandals longer than most people. Today is the third day of November and it's about 82 degrees outside. I literally just wanted to sit outside all day but I did, in fact, have to go to work. Yesterday it was also about 80 degrees and I just really appreciate days when I don't have to wear pants.
I am a huge fan of warm weather. One of my favorite feelings in the world, besides having my hair in a ponytail, is the feeling of the warm sun on my skin. So the fact that most months out of the year feel like summer is beautiful to me because I get to feel that feeling year-round. I didn't even have to wear a jacket today!
The fewer clothes I have to wear, the better my day is. I'd much rather throw on shorts and a t-shirt than having to wear tights and boots and pants and experience a "real" winter. people up north own parkas and I have no practical need for a jacket that big.
But shoutout to them, they look cool on tv. Trust me, I would take 80 degrees in November over cold and wind ANY day. Because I'm wearing sandals and you're not.
I think my crowning achievement was last year when I wore shorts sleeves and no socks on Christmas. I really hope this Christmas is like that too!
