I will never go to a Beyoncé concert. She's just not my cup of tea.
I don't really like a lot of today's current musicians. I prefer Billy Joel, Elton John, Prince, and Queen. I prefer classic rock.
Classic rock is often considered "Dad music" among people my age. Very rarely do I find another person who appreciates the works of The Who, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin.
This past week, I have had to explain who Prince was three times. Multiple people on Twitter did not know who was projected onto a sheet during the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
F.Y.I. THIS IS PRINCE
Anytime a classic rock song comes on in the dining hall, I have to sing along. None of my friends have heard the song and always ask, "Who is this?" It is so frustrating to love music that no one else appreciates. I constantly hear people talking about the latest hits of Beyoncé, Cardi B, and Ed Sheeran, but I can't relate. I make so many references to classic rock icons and their songs, but no one ever understands.
Unfortunately, because I like classic rock, there is an increasingly occurring problem. My favorite artists are deciding to stop touring (I'm looking at you Sir Elton John) or have passed away. (Prince, Tom Petty, Freddie Mercury, John Lennon...)
When Prince died, I was heartbroken. The world had lost an icon and none of my peers cared or even knew who he was. (If Billy Joel ever dies, I'm taking off school/work to mourn.)
I'm sure only a few of you will read this, but I'll make a deal with you. If you listen to some quality classic rock, I'll try and listen to an artist that was born after 1985.
Maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised and will find a new song that you'll love.
