Why I Love Being A Greek Woman

Greek Life: parties, rich kids, spoiled brats, the best of the best. Wrong... minus the best of the best because we are.

Being a Greek Woman does not mean I'm stupid or spoiled or anything along those lines. I don't dress nicely 100 percent of the time and I am not getting my MRS degree. Will I be a mom and wife one day? HECK YES I WILL! And I will be a great one at that, but I am going to college for an education, then medical school for more of an education.

Being Greek gives me a support system to do that. It gives me connections and something to say I was proud to be a part of. I am not in a sorority to get t-shirts or to pay for my friends. I am in a sorority so I can have a home and people to go to when I've had a bad week. I am in a sorority not because being a sorority girl is my identity but because the people in my sorority encourage my identity that is found in Christ alone.

I love being Greek because I love the opportunities it gives me. It allows me to meet people from all over my country and make connections with ladies I would have never knew existed without my organization. I love being Greek because I love being myself and I am not forced to be anyone other than me. I am known by my name and not someone's younger sister or someone's daughter.

I spent most of my life wanting to go greek. I had all of these expectations for greek life and not only were they met but they were exceeded. I love being greek because when I walk through the front doors of the mansion there's always someone there to love on me and tell me that it's okay that I fell down the stairs twice that day. I love being greek because I always have a place to call home and people to call mine. I always have people to laugh with, cry with, and make the best memories with because they are forever my people. Yes, I am the typical girl who is overly obsessed with her sorority and I honestly do not care. Having something to invest your time in in college is good and I am so glad that I can invest mine in the greek community.

Being greek is more than t-shirts and date parties, it's finding people you care about and things you care about through your organization. I love being a greek woman because even when things in my life go wrong I always have a group of women who are there to love me and support me. Being greek is something that is absolutely indescribable because you are not only doing life with people you love, but also investing in the things you believe in. It's caring about a philanthropy and people. It's investing in other organizations and not just yours because being greek is about an entire community. All in all I love being Greek because I know it defies the stereotypes and it's not about the things everyone thinks it's about. It's about people and love and being more than what the world says you are.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
