Louisville Problems

It's not all bourbon and gambling.

Louisville, KY is a unique town. And while there are many pros to living here, there are some major cons. Pros would include all the awesome food, and the fact that we experience all four seasons, but the cons are some of the worst and they need to be addressed now. These are Louisville Problems:

1. The Spaghetti Junction

Driving through this downtown intersection of highways is equivalent to driving through a maze. It is the reason you have accidentally driven across the bridge to Indiana multiple times in your driving career.

2. Parking

When it comes to parking downtown or in Old Louisville, forget it. Every street is by permit only or has insane parking hours like 2a.m.-7a.m. every other Monday and Thursday.

3. Being under 21

Louisville is definitely an alcohol town. We have countless bars and everyone is obsessed with bourbon. Being under 21 while living in Louisville is basically asking to have no social life.

4. Seeing a decked out UK fan

Going out and about in the city and seeing someone in head-to-toe UK clothes is seriously sickening. Like, what are you doing? Move to Lexington where the ambulances are blue.

5. Deciding where to eat

Deciding what restaurant to go to is like deciding which way you want to win a million bucks. There are SO many options and all of them are amazing. Even after my mom moved to Chicago, she said she still missed the food in Louisville.

6. Snow

Ahh, the snow. It comes every year, but every time it does, people literally freak out. Everyone acts like it's the apocalypse and nobody knows how to drive anymore. Schools close at the sight of one flurry and everyone needs to chill out.

7. The rain

Again, magically everyone forgets how to drive when it even sprinkles.

8. Traffic

For a relatively small city, we have a lot of traffic. If there's even a small wreck on the other side of the highway, everyone will be backed up because they want to stare at it and see what happened. Also, nobody can handle any type of construction.

9. Speaking of construction...

It is never ending.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
