Technology: the thing we all know and that is ingrained in us. The thing that our lives revolve around us and embody us. This thing of technology.
Technology has no doubt brought countless amounts of advantages to society, social lives, and the workplace, but it has inevitably taken over the lives of humans. It has taken away the element of enjoying the moment.
With technology surrounding us every which way, people are less inclined to enjoy the moments as they come. People would rather post on their social media platforms to show people they are at a "sick" concert rather than take in the moment.
People would rather post on Instagram or Facebook saying that they are engaged rather than conversing with others to inform them.
Our society has lost the meaning of living in the moment. It has become about showing others what you have and getting the message out as soon as possible, despite the fact that personalized messages often have greater meaning.
Our generation cannot forget about the meaning of conversation and the reduced personalization that text messages or emails provide. Our generation cannot forget that relationships should not revolve around technology. Relationships should revolve around genuine interactions.
So next time you go to post on someone's Facebook wall to wish them a happy birthday, remember how much they mean to you and either pick up the phone and let them hear your voice, or wish them a happy birthday face-to-face.
Or better yet, send them a handwritten letter the old-fashioned way.
Next time you are on a vacation, take in the beauty and the good company you are in. Don't spend the whole time on your mobile phone showing everyone else how good it is.
Our generation cannot distance ourselves from living in the moment.
Inevitably, technology will continue to grow and be an essential part of our society, but it is up to our generations and generations to come to reinforce the meaning of genuineness.
