Looking back on the year of Trump

So, it's been a year since November 8, 2016. I still remember that night like it was yesterday. I had gone to an election watch party to see the first woman president be elected. What I got in return was a nightmare. In the year that has passed, I have had time to reflect on the situation that our country now finds itself into. A lot has happened in politics. From the Republican party basically letting the Trump administration get away with anything, to this president not condemning white supremacists. I want to take a few minutes of your time to remind everyone why we must get rid of this guy. NOW!

Before Trump was even elected, in July of 2016, the FBI launched an investigation into the Trump campaign colluding with the Russian government. This was not known to the public until James Comey's testimony to the House Intelligence Committee in March of 2017. Why we didn’t know this before the election? That is unknown. We had to have every detail of the Hillary Clinton “investigation,” but not a word about the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia. Months later James Comey, the FBI director in charge of the Trump/Russia investigation, was fired. Just a day later Trump allegedly told the Russian ambassador that he “faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off.” Trump also called Comey a “real nut-job.” A few days after this, Trump went on NBC Nightly News and blatantly said he fired Comey because of the Russia investigation. After that we got Superman himself, Robert Mueller. Okay maybe I am putting a little too much faith in Mueller, but look at everything we’ve been through this year. And this list is pretty much just a fourth of it.

Our country has suffered a great deal this past year. However, the elections last night in Virginia and New Jersey did give me hope that we are headed into the right direction. Voters rejected the cold and hateful rhetoric that Trump spews. Democrats won both Governorships, Lt. Governorships, and many state house seats. Virginia got the first ever transgender woman to hold a state house seat. She beat a twenty-five-year incumbent that called himself the “Chief Homophobe of Virginia.” He was also the author of the infamous “bathroom bill.”

The mid-term elections of 2018 are right around the corner. All the seats in the House of Representatives are up for grabs. I am helping with a campaign right now to try and unseat a 30-year Republican incumbent. If you are tired of congress not getting things done, you have the chance to change that. Voting is one of the most important activities you can do. The Resistance has a chance to take back our country from the monsters who are in control right now. If the news gets you down, go volunteer for a campaign. I enjoy block walking, but you can also make phone calls, you can donate money, just donate some of your time to a cause that you believe in. Right now, anything is better than nothing. Resist.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
