Honestly, this is more of an article for me than it is for you guys, lol.
Finals time is really kicking everyone in the butt and it doesn't help that I'm a hardcore procrastinator. Usually, when I have zero motivation to study or do what I'm supposed to do, I think about the things I can look forward to so I can work hard to finish the semester strong. Here are the five things I'm most excited for in the summer that'll motivate me to finally get my act together and study:
1. The beach
I don't know if any of you are like me, but I actually ADORE the beach. I love going with my friends and (sometimes) my family and just swimming in the salty ocean or laying in the sun with a nice book. Just even being around the ocean is so relaxing to me: hearing the waves splash up against the shore makes you forget all about the struggles you've had and the struggles that may come.
2. The new, cute summer fashion
Hi, my name is Lanette... and I'm a shopaholic. I was pretty good this last winter; I almost didn't buy any new clothes, because to be honest, I just dressed in sweats and leggings all day and every day. But I'm excited about summer because I can finally bring out the cute mini dresses, sundresses, sandals, and tops. Summertime OUR TIME to thrive, OK. Everyone dresses better in the summer, and the SALES OK. THE SALES. FIND YOU SOME SALES SIS. Just even writing about this makes me want to go to the mall and buy new clothes already!!
3. New music that you can blast in your car
Summer is another great time when all of the good songs come out. I mean, we're all going to be blasting Cardi B's new album even though we find her completely obnoxious, right? I know that I will. Anyway, I'm excited to listen to the radio or my CD playlists from my friends (thank you Mayuri) and just go on long car rides and bask in the beauty of the beats, the lyrics, the melodies, and the harmonies.
4. State fairs, carnivals, and cookouts
So I went to the Meadowlands for the first time last summer and it was SO MUCH FUN (thank Kim and Joel)!! So this summer I made it my mission to go to more state fairs, more carnivals, spend more days at Six Flags, etc. There's so many right here, where I live, and I plan to take advantage of it while it lasts.
5. Endless days and endless nights of fun, friends, and laughs
This one is my ultimate favorite. I love the summer because I finally get to see all of my friends more often. I remember there was this one night during the summer that'll I'll never forget: one of my friends and I were just laying on her lawn and staring up at the stars and cracking jokes about life. It was such a hot night, but there was a slight breeze, which made the hotness bearable. It was an amazing moment, and it made me realize how important my friends are to me. I honestly just want to sit back, relax with a good book and enjoy everything the summertime has to offer me.
* * *
So those are my top five things that I'm looking forward to this summer. Hopefully, after typing all of that and after going through all my photos from the summer in my phone, it made me realize that I need to grind for these next to weeks to finish the semester strong. I have a long summer ahead of me filled with amazing moments . . . why wouldn't I want to do great at the end of the semester and finish with a bang?
