Recently, the world of anthropology has been rocked by the discovery of the oldest and one of the most complete human skeletons found in England, and his name is the Cheddar Man.
The skeleton itself is 10,000 years old. It was found in a cave with fairly cool temperatures, which many believe aided in his preservation. Scientists, using his DNA, were able to conduct a facial reconstruction of the man, giving us a glimpse into how ancient humans looked.
A look at his bones suggest that he either died a violent death, or his skeleton was damaged during the dig. Deciphering his life and death is a convoluted process, with his skeleton painting an ambiguous picture.
He had curly black hair, dark brown skin, and pale eyes, an amalgamation of traits from today's human population. His reconstruction included him smiling, implying that emotions transcend time.
It has been suggested that 1 in every 10 British people today can trace their lineage back to the Cheddar Man. We are all truly connected.
Isn't it marvelous, our ancient history, and the story it has to tell?
