I'm sure we're all familiar with the saying "It's what's on the inside that matters", and that saying is so true. A lot of the times people brush past it, only looking surface level and never looking any deeper. You will never get to truly know someone if you don't look deeper than surface level.

The surface level can easily be a lie and mislead you to think that person is so much different than who they truly are. When you go deeper than surface level you learn stories, life experiences, similarities, differences, intentions and so much more. The heart of someone will always be so much more important than anything else.

Looking deeper beyond surface level will also help prevent getting hurt, having trust issues, being confused, being manipulated, feeling used, or feeling worthless. We are in control of who we let in and who we trust; when you look deeper into a person, letting someone in and trusting them is a bit easier. When you only stay surface level, you're strangers. You don't know anything about each other and wouldn't even know where to start when it comes to describing that person. You wouldn't know their true fears, their strengths and weaknesses, what they want, what they're dealing with, or what they're passionate about.

When you don't go beyond surface level, you're missing out on the opportunity to get to know someone who could be an amazing person and have a very big impact on your life. Get to know the people around you beyond surface level because there is a much greater purpose for you crossing paths with them. Get to know them because they may hold some pretty important similarities to you that will come in handy later on. Don't discount the inside of a person due to fear or anxiety or worry; seek the inside of a person and get to know them for them.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
