A lackluster NBA debut for Lonzo Ball has people to stirring all across the country.
People are boasting about how they were right, how the son of an annoying media icon Lavar Ball doesn't have what it takes to make it in the National Basketball League. Some people are even jumping ships as fans of Lonzo aren't supporting him anymore.
This asks the towering question that is given to every young man that enters the NBA, is Lonzo Ball a boom or a bust for the Lakers?
While I don't think any person who follows sports gives this question enough time, if you were looking for an answer after his debut, you would say he was a real bust. With just 3 points on 1-6 shooting in his first game, the much-anticipated start for this young man didn't go quite as planned. Lock-down defender Patrick Beverley may have had a lot to do with this.
But the next night, Ball responded with a performance that you wouldn't suspect from any other 19 years old. Ball dropped 29 points while also recording 11 rebounds and 9 assists. This stat line opened up the boom or bust question for further evaluation.
Lonzo Ball plays every game with a cold-blooded demeanor that really isn't replicated by many other players in the league. This attitude sets him apart from other players in his class. I think with the way he plays the game and with his growing comfortability while playing in this extremely different league will prove what kind of player he will be.
A big statement game for Lonzo Ball's rookie season will come soon as on December 29th, there will be a rematch with the LA Clippers at the Staples Center. Ball won't put too much importance on this game because it just isn't his personality to get worked up over a game. But don't be surprised when Lonzo has a breakout game on a guy like Beverley who has been very vocal about his play against him in his debut.
While I still belive that December is still too soon to say whether a guy will have a great career or not, a second matchup between Lonzo and one of the best defenders in the leauge will go a long way in the eyes of the poepl trying to make the boom or bust decision.
