The music department at Longwood University is always an exciting place to be. You meet a variety of individuals who are extremely talented and hard working. These students study and practice hard for hours over the course of four years or more and then finally, they get to have their moment in the spotlight. What am I talking about? SENIOR RECITALS!
Senior recitals don't just serve as a grade, but are one of many Longwood traditions music majors experience. Just in the month of March, there were two senior recitals. I had the privilege of watching Laura Millon and Lauren Peters perform. Their performances were marvellous and they shared their love and passion for music with their audiences. But that's what a senior recital is for, right? To show everyone how much you love music; to let your passion and hard work shine through.
When these two women took the stage they did not simply stand there and sing, they performed. These performers had to memorize songs in English, Italian, French, and German. It was truly amazing to watch these two because I can remember being a high school student who admired how magical they sound when they sang. It is because of students like Laura and Lauren that young males and females find the courage to follow their dreams.
If you know of a music major who has a senior recital coming up, please go support them. Bring them flowers, bake them brownies, or just congratulate them. They have worked hard for that moment and will continue to do great things after they leave college.
As for Laura and Lauren, I just want to say congratulations and I hope that you both continue to be successful musicians. May you continue to grow gracefully and find ways to share your passion for music with your future students and audiences.
And as always, keep the spirit of Longwood alive!
