In the small town of Farmville, VA, there isn’t much to do for fun besides going to the movies, the bowling alley, out to eat, or to a local party. Because of this, some kids resort to crime or illegal activity as a way of entertaining themselves. However, in 2008, Louis C. Gould III, who goes by “G,” became the founder and president of the Freshboyz Club which is a community youth group based in Prince Edward County.
G currently attends Longwood University and majors in history with a concentration in secondary education. G stated that he is just trying to do his part while he’s still alive. He said the goal of the club is to guide young men as much as possible to be educated, well-mannered products of society.
“Our club is basically a group of young men who have come together for the purpose of trying to help better their community while also helping out the local youth by guiding them in the right direction,” G stated. "We try and teach young men lessons from our experiences."
G stated that the FBC volunteers wherever they're needed and also give back to the community monthly. There are currently four generations of the club, which dates as far back as 2008. The first generation of members consists of those that joined anywhere from 2008-2014, the second generation consists of those that joined in 2015, and so on and so forth.
New members are found by looking for young men who are truly interested in joining for the right reasons.
“Most people only join because of the group’s image and our popularity in the community. They don’t join because they want to make a difference or because they want to be surrounded by like-minded individuals who want to be successful,” G stated.
Overall G stated that he has enjoyed being a part of this group. Working with the youth has been G’s passion for years.
“It’s fun to work with the youth because they are way smarter than we were coming up. It’s just dope to see them grow and develop. Their mindsets and thought processes are incredible and it’s just fun to be around them,” stated G.
10 years will be the 20th anniversary of the FBC. G hopes the group will continue to be a staple within the community and the youth will still look up to its members.
“I just want people to know that the FBC was truly for the community and we have always served as positive role models for the youth. FBC will be forever,” stated G.
