There comes a time in every girl's life where she wants to change her look. For me, that time came just three weeks ago. I had just gotten home from my very first year of college and somehow I felt like within those ten months, I had changed, maybe even found myself. I thought about changing my wardrobe but that wasn't really going to describe how I felt. Then it hit me: I needed to change my hair. Throughout my life, I have always taken pride in my extremely lengthy locks, and never have I ever wanted to cut them. But three weeks ago, I found myself on Pinterest (as usual) looking for a new short hair cut to display my new found "self". It was at that point that I started to wonder about the great debate of long and short hair.
Long Hair.
If you're anything like me, you love the options that come with long hair, the braids, the buns, ponytails and half up/half down styles. The possibilities are endless. But with all those possibilities comes a lot of responsibility. Brushing your hair at least six times a day, and don't even get me started about what happens in warmer weather. The frizz is absolutely ridiculous. This can be hard if you're an on-the-go person and never really like to go the extra mile to look amazing yet somehow still want to look like you had the patience to sit there and neatly sort out the jungle that may be your hair. Not today, Satan. Not today.
Short Hair.
Take into account that I am in fact slightly biased on the count that I recently just chopped 12 inches of my hair off. But I can see the differences. Since drastically cutting my hair, I have woken up to hair that simply just needs to be brushed through and parted however I chose to wear it that day. I get out of the shower and I am not dealing with knotting hair. Just a simple glide through with my brush is really all that is needed. Straightening and curling have become easier tasks as well. With shorter hair there's not a lot to manage and style. This I am thankful for. It does bum me out a little bit that some braids and buns are not an option but, let's face it, short hair usually doesn't get in the way.
So if you ask me, in my slightly, but totally biased opinion, short hair wins, but really it is all about you and your preferences. If you're looking to change it, I'd say go for it. Try the opposite of what you have now. Don't be afraid. Escape the fear and remember that, no matter what you do, you will find some light at the end of the tunnel. Who knows, you may even like it!
