I've been suffering from multiple concussions since high school and it was kind of a taboo topic. People usually just thought it was a hit on the head and the next day, you're fine. Well, for me, that wasn't the case and I've been living with post-concussion syndrome for six years now.
And over those six years, these are probably the most common phrases that come to my mind when I'm hanging out with people who have no idea what it is like.
2. "Is this migraine from a brain tumor or a migraine from life?"
GiphyDid I wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Did I hit my head in my sleep? Did I drink enough water yesterday? Oh wait, I didn't eat breakfast. Never mind everyone, I'm fine.
3. "If someone tells me to take a Tylenol one more time..."
GiphyOK, regular meds like Tylenol does not help the cursed people who suffer from post-concussion syndrome & migraines. It. Just. Doesn't. Work.
4. "I wonder if my doctor actually expects me to go home to 'sleep it off.'"
GiphyLike how many times can you tell someone to go "sleep it off" before they start tuning you out?
5. "People probably think I have a RBF but it's just my RMF."
GiphyIt might have started as my Resting Migraine Face but by now, it has turned into a RBF. It keeps more people quiet this way.
6. "Do I push through this next episode of Netflix & fall asleep with a migraine?"
GiphyI really envy the people who can watch 5 hours of Netflix without getting a blinding headache & having to squint through one eye to watch their fav show.
Some call it your body telling you when you need to rest - I like to think of it as a Survival of the Fittest task.
7. "Do I have the time & energy to recuperate from a night out?"
GiphyI know we all get hungover but there's something about post-concussion syndrome & hangovers. They just love each other so much that the hangover has to stick around for a week. I have to plan my week before I go out just to make sure I'm not going to miss anything important because I know good ol' hangover will be sticking around.
