Being a college student in downtown Charleston on the weekend can be pretty difficult. I mean in the fact that you want to spend every dollar downtown during the weekend. Living in downtown Charleston can make things pretty difficult when figuring out what to do on the weekend.
I’m originally from the suburbs of New England so finding something to do on a budget is pretty easy. In New England you would just go out and maybe go hiking, in Charleston, it’s a little more complicated. In order to keep yourself busy, you either have to go and get food (which costs money), go shopping (which costs money), or do some tourist attraction (which also costs money.)
My roommates and I try not to spend money as much as possible but sometimes the temptation gets the best of us. And, most of us don’t have the money to spend anyway. The thing that you think would get us is the shopping, but it's really the food. See, you would think because we all have meal plans that wouldn’t be an issue, but it is.
On the weekends we try to get out as much as possible and not be cooped up in the dorm all day, we go on walks and head to the Battery or the Waterfront, or we would head down to the beach but since the weather is colder we’ve had to improvise a little bit.
Finding things to do in Charleston on the weekend that doesn’t include spending money can definitely be difficult but it is possible. Charleston has a ton of activities, but that doesn’t mean you have to spend money in order to do all of them.
