Living A Balanced Life

Living A Balanced Life

We've all seen it. That balanced-life-triangle with "personal, spiritual, and professional" at the three points. It sits there, mocking us, reminding us that our life is unbalanced and we need to start working less, praying more, and loving whole-heartedly. However, like many things, that is a lot easier said than done.

It requires you to focus on only the important things in life, which can become a little confusing at times. Sometimes we can lose focus on what is really crucial to our lives. We get caught up in this cycle where we are putting to much time into only one aspect of our lives. Living like that will only make things topple over, making you restart from scratch. So how can we avoid this happening?

Well for starters, put down your phone. You will be amazed how beautiful life can be when you're not looking at it from behind a screen. Stop looking at other people living their lives, and go live yours. Enjoy the company around you, you never know where a conversation can lead. Who knows, maybe striking up a conversation with a stranger could lead to a future romance, employer, or its just a story that teaches you a lesson. You would never know unless you detach the device stuck to your hand.

Once you put down your phone, you start to find things you love to do, or better yet remember them. For example, I love to sing. For a while, I stopped. I got too caught up in life and I stopped doing the thing that made me the happiest. It wasn't until I took a step back that I realized how critical it was for me to incorporate this into my life. I forgot how much happiness and peace it brought me. I feel many of us can forget the simple little things that make our life worthwhile.

The reason why I am focusing on the personal aspect of the triangle so much is because this is the part that seems to be forgotten about the most. Take time this summer to breathe a little. Refocus and adjust the lens of your life. Look at things from a brighter angle, take in every moment and have adventures that life your spirits. Soon enough fall will be here and life will start picking up the pace before you know it. Work on that part now so that you won't have to worry about being off balance when things get tough.

And never, ever forget to do what you love, and love what you do.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
