Growing up in the early 2000s was quite the time. From frosted lip gloss to what some might call the peak of Britney Spears' career, that era left a mark on society, especially us kids.
So, if there is one thing that anyone I grew up around knows about me, it's that I was in love with "Kim Possible" as a kid. So much so that I did cosplay as her one Halloween, complete with the orange hair and everything else. When I heard that there was going to be a live action version of my favorite Disney channel show, I honestly didn't know what to think.
For me, "Kim Possible" was always one of (if not) my favorite characters growing up. She was a laid-back high school girl who played sports and was involved, but she also had time for her family and friends. She was mature, witty, and found a way to juggle her double life as a crime fighter and the girl next door. She showed me (and many other young girls) that sometimes being a superhero takes more than powers or gadgets.
For those who do not know what this show is about, it centers in on a high school girl, Kim Possible, who is also a spy beyond her time. She and her best-friend-turned-boyfriend, Ron, must balance the struggles of high school and her obligation to taking down an evil scientist, Dr. Drakken, and his loyal bodyguard, Shego, who are hellbent on taking over the world.
So many questions have come to mind after seeing the pictures and trailer. What would this new live-action entail? Would it be the same as the cartoon series? Or pick off from where that series ended? Is anyone from the original cast joining?
Luckily, we know this answer.
Not only is the Kim Possible, Christy Carlson Romano, herself, joining the cast (however it is unclear what role she will be playing, as of now), but the actor who was Professor Dementor, Patton Oswalt is reprising his role as well.
Like, with anything, though there have been mixed reactions. Many people couldn't believe that there was not much (or any signs) of everyone's favorite naked mole rat, Rufus. Others thought that Shego looked great, but wondered what happened to Drakken's blue skin.
Another thing that many people don't like? Well for starters, the young actress, Sadie Stanley, who is playing the title role doesn't necessarily look like she would be in high school.
After watching it (the trailer) though, I'm pretty excited for what is to come. I can't wait to see what the movie brings and I think a lot of people will end up feeling the same way. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
One thing is for sure, Disney is expanding their reboots/ live-action remakes from being just movies ("Beauty and the Beast," "Cinderella," etc.) to a whole television series.
