On a day to day basis, our lives can be pretty busy and hectic. As important as it is to get stuff done, you also have to take a step back and enjoy every step of your journey. Here's a list of things, that if you already don't, you should start putting more emphasis on in your life.
1. That first cup of coffee in the morning
Most people who drink coffee on a daily basis can relate that your first cup of coffee is the best part of your morning. If this is a habit for you, don't forget to put emphasis on the enjoyment of it instead of considering it just a part of your "routine" in the morning. If you look at your daily routines with a fresh mindset, you will have an overall more positive outlook on life.
2. True friends
This doesn't classify your "friends", this classifies your true friends. The one's that embrace the Bridget, or the Stephanie, or the Morgan that you were meant to be. You will come across a lot of friendships in life, but don't forget to take a step back to analyze the people that really have your back, that really support you, and that really want the best for you. You will notice that I kept repeating "really", and this is because there are many friends that will support you and have your back, however there's certain ones that will go above and beyond for you (and you know you'd do the same for them). Keep these people close to your heart and never let them down.
3. A phone call from your mom
If your mom is your best friend, like mine is for me, don't take any second talking to her for granted. When that "Mom" or "Madre" or "Mother" caller ID pops up on your phone take a minute to look at her name and recognize the gratitude you have for her. Don't just go through the motions of telling her how your day/week has been, ask her questions and make her feel love and wanted as she should be felt.
4. Motivational books
From experience, I tend to adhere to the characters in the books I read or the shows I watch. That being said, it's super important to choose material that is relatable to what you are wanting in life. This is why I believe motivational books are the kind of reading you should consider and focus more on. "You are a Badass" by Jen Sincero is what I'm reading currently reading and it has changed my outlook on life so far.
5. That 35 minute walk to class
I know you probably read this and questioned why it was on here. Just think...when you graduate you will never be that student again walking the streets of campus on a mission to get somewhere, taking in everything on your route, and all the friendly faces going through their own unique journey at the same place you are. Enjoy that long route while you can and have an optimistic mindset about it.
There are many other aspects to life that should be emphasized more not listed; everyone has their own unique mindsets on what's most important to them. Don't forget to recognize every now and then that life is meant to be enjoyed. So, start living your life with purpose instead of being one human being walking this Earth.
