Sometimes we get inside our heads. Sometimes we keep it all in and we don't tell anyone what's up. Sometimes we lose ourselves. It's important to have things that bring us back, that center us.
When I get stressed, confused, or worked up, I know that what I need is some music and/or some movement. As a musician (or band nerd) and a dancer, my stress reliever always comes back to music. Pushing air through my horn and hearing my emotions echo back to me through song sends shivers down my spine. Letting go of everything when I dance, not caring what I look like when it's become too much, feels better than words can describe.
But I also know that there are times when band and dance can make things worse. they stress me out even more. But getting off my rump and moving my body freely to some good music, whether it be with a workout video or on a run, always brings me peace. Going to the gym has never been an activity listed on my ideal day, but I remember leaving with my parents one day after they dragged me there and looking at my mom to tell her I felt so much better. And I did not even realize that I had things holding me down.
So sometimes school, work, or life can be too much. And sometimes we just have to let it all go. And I think that it is very important to learn what little things make you feel better.
