I just recently celebrated my birthday, and I was so grateful for all of my friends and family that helped me enjoy this special moment. Seeing all of my loved ones there, I was so happy to be blessed with such amazing people in my life.

With that in mind, I remembered that with each passing year I am getting older. I stopped to think about what lessons I had learned through my life experiences. I felt that they should be shared with others so that they can keep them in mind as they live their own life.

1. Fun is under-appreciated.

Life is short. Create some fun in your life. You don’t have to make everything serious. Don’t worry about what others say about your fun, just enjoy the fun.

2. Age is a just number.

My grandma taught me this, and she said that our actual age does not define how we live our lives. She told me to not let a number tell you how to live your life and be the person that is inside of you.

3. Don’t hold grudges.

Forgive and let go. There’s no other option. Don’t let it consume your life and poison your body and mind. Forgive. Then let go.

4. You choose your own destiny.

You are your own person and decide how you live your life. Don’t let others change you or try to tell you how "your life is meant to be." You make your own choices. You are you.

5. You aren’t always right.

We all think that we have the right answers and know what is best, but that’s not the case. There is more than one answer and tons of perspectives that are truthful. Don’t be blinded by your own truths.

6. Change is good.

Life changes all the time. We should not fight against it. Go with the flow and embrace the changes. Life is an adventure, so go with it.

7. You can’t control others.

We all have wanted others to think and act like us because we want to change them. But what we have to recognize is that we can’t change them and should not try to control their life. We should be there and accept that everyone is different in their own way. We are all unique, and we should embrace it.

8. Your heart is your best compass.

Your heart leads you closer to people you love and who love you. Your heart knows the way. It is the compass in the journey of life; follow it.

9. Make every day count.

Value each and every day. Don’t ask how many days are left. It is a finite number, and you will soon reach your last day. Live every day as if it were your last. Be in the moment, not in the past.

10. Words matter.

Every word that you say has some sort of power. Choose your words carefully because they can make or break a conversation. Use them for good and not to harm someone. You can’t take something back once you have said it. Think before you speak.

11. Work for it.

If you really want something in life, then work for it. You can’t guarantee you’ll find a shortcut. It is not going to get handed to you on a silver platter. Put in the work and you will soon find that sense of accomplishment.

12. Always love.

Love is the answer, plain and simple. Love is the reason we are all here. Love is a way to bring light to the darkest situations. It is a sign of good and hope. Spread it all around you and express it to others.

Just remember that life’s greatest lessons are given to us at times when we least expect it and from our worst mistakes. Take these lessons and try to apply them to your life. You’ll definitely learn something about yourself and others.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
