12 Life Lessons From My Mama
Emily Wood

The more I live, the more I see the truth behind all my mom instilled in me from childhood. Here are a few lessons she teaches me that I hope to impart to you as well:

1.When in doubt, overdress.

You can never go wrong with dressing for the occasion.

2.Remember to say “thank you.”

Be excessively grateful in all you do and never forget to write a thank you note.

3.Family matters.

Make the ones who love you most a priority in your life.

4.Go above and beyond.

Whether it was a science fair project or a Halloween costume, my mom always taught me to go the extra mile and exceed expectations.

5.Find beauty in the ordinary.

Find humor and happiness in the mundane moments of life.

6.THINK!

My mom constantly reminds me to use my head before I act and react to any and every situation.

7.Always seek adventure

From historical sites to waterfall hikes to nature exploring, my mom teaches us that the world is one of adventure.

8.The best you can give is your all.

Whatever I did and whatever I do, she encourages me to be all there and all in.

9.Use your gifts.

Never squander the blessings and abilities God gave you.

10.Always be kind.

Kindness counts so consider how you treat your neighbors. A smile or a word of encouragement has the capability to change the course of someone’s day.

11.It is better to have too much than not enough.

“It is better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.” When in doubt, go overboard.

12.Above all else, seek Him.

From encouraging me to memorize AWANA verses as a child to helping me seek His will for my life, she taught me and still teaches me to run to Him first.

The list could go on and on, but for the sake of brevity I will limit the list to these few life tips. Listen to your mothers because they know so much more than we do. Thank your mom for instilling within you years of wisdom and hours of instruction. Her work was not in vain.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
