Growing up, my family always had pets in our house. We've had several precious dogs throughout the years that I will always have fond memories of. After having dogs for my entire life, I've realized that my dog has taught me a lot of valuable life lessons.
1. Naps are totally great.
Tired Dog GIF - Find & Share on GIPHYGiphyI don't know about you, but when I'm looking for my dog, 9 times out of 10 I find her asleep somewhere in the house. Whether she's on the floor, on the couch, or in her bed, I usually find her taking a nap. I've learned from my dog that naps are cool, and it's totally okay to take naps everyday to recharge. No shame.
2. Forgive and forget.
Sometimes I get in a hurry or don't look down, and I step on my Shih-Tzu's tail. Talk about GUILT! The amazing thing about dogs is that they forgive you pretty much immediately after you do something stupid. My dog has taught me that it's always better to forgive and forget.
3. Get excited about the little things.
GiphyMy dog gets excited about the "littlest" things, like when she gets to go for a ride in the car or when she gets a treat after going potty. It doesn't take much to get her excited, and I've realized that it's the little things in life that matter most.
4. Kind words bring life.
My Shih-Tzu literally comes to life when someone talks to her. Whenever I praise my dog or tell her how cute she is, she always wags her tail and comes over to me to be petted. People are kind of the same way, if you think about it. My dog has taught me to never withhold kindness because kind words bring life.
5. Appreciate being outdoors.
GiphyMy dog gets so hype when she gets to run around outside. She loves walks, and she loves exploring the backyard. She's taught me to appreciate being outside in nature.
6. It's okay to get a little messy sometimes.
Whenever my dog has a particularly exhilarating adventure in the backyard, she always tracks dirt back inside with her. But I've realized that it's okay to get a little messy sometimes, if it means that you're appreciating life, getting exercise, and having fun out in nature.
7. Love unconditionally.
GiphyDogs are known for their loyalty and love. Even if I'm sick and sniffly or I haven't showered in days, my dog still loves me. My sweet dog has shown me that I should love unconditionally, no matter how people act or what they look like.
Though they are only a small part of our lives, our dogs give us happy memories and teach us valuable lessons.
