Reach Upward

To me, the best part about reading is finding those beautiful quotes that seem to stick with you forever. Whether it's life advice or just beautiful words strung together to create a powerful sentence, those quotes will always hold a special place in your heart. I love stumbling upon a line so beautiful that I must pause and write it down (because I couldn't live with myself if I damaged any of my books), reread it over and over again until I know it's embedded in my brain. Every avid reader out there has those lines that they admire, so I'll share mine with you.

"Life appears to me too short to be spent in nursing animosity or registering wrongs."

Jane Eyre, Charlotte Brontë

"Nothing is so painful to the human mind as a great and sudden change."

Frankenstein, Mary Shelley

"Anyone who ever gave you confidence, you owe them a lot."

Breakfast at Tiffany's, Truman Capote

"People in their right minds never take pride in their talents."

To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee

"Sometimes I can feel my bones straining under the weight of all the lives I'm not living."

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer

"How wild it was, to let it be."

Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail, Cheryl Strayed

"She wasn't bitter. She was sad, though. But it was a hopeful kind of sad. The kind of sad that just takes time."

The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Stephen Chbosky

"I want to change my punctuation. I lost for exclamation marks, but I'm drowning in ellipses."

Warm Bodies, Issac Marion

"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald

"I hope she'll be a fool-- that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool."

The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald

"It seemed funny to me that the sunset she saw from her patio and the one I saw from the back steps was the same one. Maybe the two different worlds we lived in weren't so different."

The Outsiders, S.E. Hinton

"And that's the thing about people who mean everything they say. They think everyone else does too."

The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini

"Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book."

The Fault in Our Stars, John Green

Literature is so much more than "just a book." These books are filled with life lessons, beautiful quotes, and honestly, an alternate world. Whenever I read, I feel as though I'm in this world with the characters. Reading is my stress relief, my happy place, and my escape. Hopefully, if you haven't read these beautiful quotes from some of my favorite pieces of literature, it will inspire you to see the beauty behind the words on the pages.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
