Time and time again I have heard different people say "Oh well, the person that works here will get it" after leaving something behind. A mess or a spill to be more specific. This "give them work" perspective is even more enraging when it comes to maintenance personnel.
Just because it is someone's job to clean does not give you the right to blatantly make a mess. That is very rude and inconsiderate, and it is a disgusting mindset to have. That's like breaking your own leg to give your doctor work. It doesn't make any sense.
You are always responsible for cleaning up after yourself. Since kindergarten you are told to put things back where you found them. So why does this not apply in adulthood? Why does this not apply when you are shopping, eating, or using a public venue?
Having been in retail for five years, I have picked up after other humans more than I care to admit. I have seen wrappers, unfinished foods, tags, sensors and even dirty diapers dispersed in places they have no business being. And I have been forced to pick them up. I am a caring, educated and well-rounded individual who does not deserve to clean up these scraps. The lack of respect offends me and many others in the service industry.
The customer is always right; therefore they can do anything they want, including negotiate prices and policies, ask workers to check the back and climb ladders for items they have no intention of buying, raise their voices when their expired coupon or receipt doesn't scan through and knock piles over when they can't find their size. None of this, however, is in our job description.
Accountability is everything. It is not difficult to be a thoughtful person. One just has to think about the world beyond themselves. There are 7.125 billion people in this world, so this shouldn't be a difficult task. Somehow hindsight, cooperation and consideration still fall to the wayside.
Everyone deserves respect and basic, fundamental manners should be adhered to at all times. A huge thank you to those that do.
