Dear Grandparents,
First off, I’m hungry. Your children aren’t feeding (giving me money) me. I need to make a visit very soon; you will find me quite skinny (as is my wallet).
Only kidding, I am really writing this letter to thank you and try to express how grateful and appreciative I am to have you in my life. There is no way that I would be able to handle your crazy children without you telling them to stop bothering me or to stop punishing me. Your love is one that is very different from my parents and one that I wouldn’t want to trade for the world.
The love of a grandparent is expressed in so many ways. And the love for a grandparent may not be as much. I think sometimes people take for granted how lucky they really are to be able to think of their grandparents while reading this letter. Many people can’t share in that love and even though they may still feel it, it’s hard not to be able to physically share in it.
I am so fortunate to have you. I cannot imagine a Christmas, birthday party or any other holiday or significant event in my life without you there. I am so appreciative and happy that you were able to share in that with me. I wish that we could always be together, but that’s not always the case.
Thank you for listening to me. And thank you for helping me. Your advice is so valuable to me and you have taught me lessons that I will never forget… lessons that I will pass down to my children. Thank you for always having an endless amount of food and cookies for me every time I visit your house. Most importantly, thank you for always being there for me no matter what. I know I can always turn to you when I need anything… whether it be food, advice or just someone to love on me.
Having grandparents is really comforting. It is nice to know that someone relates to you when you talk about how crazy your parents are. I mean you raised them, you know them better than anyone and know exactly what I am talking about when I say my dad is “doing that thing he always does when he gets mad.” I love hearing the stories about when they were younger and you telling them to leave me alone when they punish me.
So, thank you again for always being there for me no matter what. My favorite memories include you and I hope that never changes. Thank you for giving me a love no one can ever give me, I couldn’t imagine my life without you.
Love,
Your favorite granddaughter
