Bernie Sanders was always the most appealing candidate to me during the 2016 Presidential Election. His chances of winning were slim to none (given the extremity of his platform), but he was the most honest of them all, and his candor hooked me. Sanders was America's favorite grandpa -- delusion with regards to the legitimacy of his plans but so, so sweet and lovable.
Hillary was America's least favorite stepmother; her ideas were practical but the way she spoke came off as elusive and sarcastic like she would come into the family treating everyone as her child. While she was by far the most viable and experienced candidate in this election, she never gained America's trust and this is why she lost.
Trump was, and still is, America's creepy, inappropriate stepfather. He makes comments that are rude and insensitive at the dinner table and in public settings and he doesn't care if they hold any logic or basis in fact. During the election, Trump appeared to the people as the most "honest" candidate -- as if openly saying off-kilter and racist things and continuously coming under hot water is the equivalent to honesty. Regardless, he managed to get the electoral colleges support and, subsequently, the title of President.
Moving more towards the present, Trump has continuously demonstrated and upheld this false illusion of honesty so praised by the American public. He has made an immense amount of incorrect statements either via Twitter or National television that have been ridiculed by the media that he, in turn, refers to as 'Fake News.' Trump has created this vicious, unending cycle of stating something entirely false and then placing the blame on the media. Trump does the same to anyone who speaks negatively about him, which only adds to this hold he is systematically placing on free speech.
Trump has spent more days golfing than he has at the White House -- something he openly ridiculed Obama for during while he was in office. Trump has issued executive orders meant to inspire his supporters while his various attempts at repealing ObamaCare, something he promised to do day one of his Presidency, continue to fail epically. Trump is a narcissist so focused on maintaining his support that he is willing to do anything in order to hold onto their trust --- even if that means sending our nation into war.
Regardless of where you align policy-wise, there is no practical reason for you to support Donald Trump. He has done very few things that he promised his supporters he would do in his "100 Day Plan", and it doesn't appear as if he has any plans to start doing so. While Trump is, unfortunately, our President, he doesn't have to continue to remain so come next election and you do not have to support him now.
What's most troubling is if you can continue to support a President, let alone a person, who calls a Nazi Rally that turned violent an issue with fault on "both sides." I urge you to vote next time for the person, not the party. When you elect a President you are putting a lot of power and trust in one person, please do not forget that.
Sincerely,
A concerned citizen
