Letter To The Girl Moving Into My Childhood Bedroom

To the girl moving into my childhood bedroom,

First of all, let me say congrats on picking the best bedroom in the house and I hope you love it as much as I did! I experienced so much of my life while living in that house and my bedroom was my safe place. I was devastated when my mom made me give it to my little brother when I went to college. I hope it grows to mean as much to you as it did to me. Now, let me tell you some of the secrets your new house and bedroom have to offer.

The sun comes in through the two windows in the morning.

Just a warning: don't be surprised if you wake up blinded one morning. You get used to it. At the same time, though, don't put your bed in front of the windows and block them. Your bedroom has more window space than any of the other bedrooms and will always seem brighter than every other room. Put up pretty curtains and replace the terrible blinds that cover the glass sliding door.

The porch will become your sanctuary.

Having a porch outside of your bedroom is something you’d see in a fairy tale. It's the place where I had deep talks with my friends, cried over boys, had my first kiss, my first beer, and how I used to sneak out. Take advantage of having a place to go to that is just yours. Sit outside during a storm, read a book, even jump off of it every once in a while just because you're too lazy to walk to the door to go outside.

Invite your friends over often.

The house is designed to hold parties and host large groups of people. Take advantage of it. Hold the Powderpuff party. Invite your teammates over after games. Have sleepovers. Build pillow forts downstairs with your siblings and camp out all night. The huge living room, basement, and bar weren't created by accident.

Enjoy the yard and hot tub.

The house was originally built on farmland. There's a ton of space to build a playground, put a table in the pagoda, or sit on the patio. Take full advantage of the hot tub. Put the strobe lights on, blast your favorite Pandora station, and put all of the vents on. Use it in the snow, rain, and sun. Let it be a place where you and that cute boy share your first kiss.

The living room is the perfect place to be creative.

The living room is abnormally large and spacious. This is the perfect place to go to read or draw or write. It was common to see my sister and I on different couches with our noses in a "Harry Potter" book. It's also where I learned how to play the piano and where my brother drew. Allow this room to fill you with inspiration while you look outside, smell whatever's cooking in the kitchen, and listen to the noises that your family is making.

I really hope that you move into your new bedroom, paint it your favorite color, and make it your own! You really did pick the best bedroom in the house. Eventually, you'll be able to call this place home without any reservations. Fill that house with your own memories that you can look back on and smile about. Enjoy!

Wishing you all the best,
The girl who used to live in your room.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
