Dear Mom,
Happy birthday. You’re my best friend. My confidant. My therapist. My nurse and my forever friend. I’m sure sometimes I get on your nerves (I know I do), but you have loved me since day one and I love and appreciate you more than you’ll ever know. I am so thankful for all the memories we’ve made over the last 21 years and I can’t wait to make many more whether it’s for my college graduation, wedding day or when I have kids. I know you will be here to guide me along the way as I grow up each and every year.
I am certain that anyone with awesome parents knows that they are irreplaceable. As hard as it may be when you’re a teenager, believe me, over time you realize more and more how much your parents are your best friends. They always have your back. They always want what is best for you. They will give you the best advice. They will hold you when you cry, laugh with you when you tell a stupid joke, make you your favorite meal for a success and make you comfort food when you are down. There is not a day goes by that I don't wonder exactly what I will do in order to be half as good a mom as you one day. I guess it's true that once you have a child you know what to do and you love it as soon as you know you're having it. I can't help but wonder how many kids I will have and what an awesome grandma you'll be! I know, I know, even though I don't have kids yet, you already said you don't want to be called grandma; you want a "cooler" name. I can guarantee you, my mom will be the grandma with "contour on fleek" and telling my kids all about her childhood. After all, I plan on being a cool mom. What does that even constitute these days?! Oh, I know, exactly like you mom...
Mom, you've always taught me right from wrong. You've corrected me when I've made mistakes. You've given me advice I will cherish for a lifetime. You have told me when a guy was being an idiot. You have always told me to do my best and regardless, you'd be proud. You have been my best friend and mom all wrapped in one! What could be better than that?! I know people often say that's not possible, but I beg to differ. You have always disciplined me when need be, but also gave me plenty of laughs along the way, so I thank you for being my mom and absolute best friend.
After all, your parents are the first people to love you and love you unconditionally. So that’s why it is more than apropos for everyone on this planet to thank their lucky stars for the love they receive on a daily basis from the people that love you most: your parents! So mom, thank you! I love you more than words can say and I know you know this because I try to tell you every day. Happy birthday.
Love Always,
Your Daughter
