Dear Best Friend:
I never thought I would be friends at first, much less "my person."
We started simply by going to Starbucks after school and talking about our situations on the Broadcasting team. Those afternoons soon turned to nights where we would talk about anything. You knew my darkest secrets, love life, and even small things that amounted to bigger things in the broad spectrum of things. Us driving around soon became known as "Carpool Theraoke," because that is precisely what they were.
We had so much fun just driving around Slidell and talking about life, and what would become of it. It was in those sessions that I saw people for who they were and even looked at myself in a different light.
At the end of summer 2015, I went off to college and you stayed in Slidell to tackle on your senior year. However, when I needed you most, you were there to somehow ease the pain of freshman year. But the cool thing was, whenever you needed me, I was there, too. We balance each other out, and that's why you are my friend for life.
We've seen it all together, from bad relationships, to crap Starbucks drinks, to familial tragedies. Your family has become a part of me, and I am eternally grateful for that. Through it all, I know you have my back, and I have yours, too.
As the summer of 2016 winded down, we faced the inevitable. Soon, you'd be leaving to your dream school in Texas, and distance would be a factor in our friendship for the first time. Even as we said our goodbyes, I knew that I had something incredible to look forward to in a few months, which I do. There's just over a month until you come home, and I cannot wait.
I've heard it said that "you only get one best friend in your life." Well, Madi, that is you. Even now, as we pursue our collegiate endeavors 468.5 miles away from one another, you have to know that you are still my person. You are the Lane to my Rory, the Sookie to my Lorelai, the Ann to my Leslie. In short, without you, I don't know how I would tackle on this crazy thing known as life. you will be my maid of honor, my future child's godmother, and so much more. For now,
