A Letter To My Little Sister As She Turns 16
Nancy Summer

To My Dearest Little Sister,

Today is the day, you’re turning sixteen, getting your license and taking control of your future with every step you take forward. I can’t believe that you’ve already grown that old; it seems like just yesterday you were stealing my toys instead of my clothes and playing T-Ball instead of varsity soccer. Though it may seem like you have the world in your hands right now, I can promise you that your world will only continue to grow, and as your big sis, I feel it's only my job to give you a little bit of life advice to help you get through your next years.

While I know that school is extremely important to you, always remember to leave a little room for fun in the midst of all the homework and studying. It doesn’t have to be big extravagant dates or plannedget-togethers with your friends. It can just be taking a break to play with the dog, setting aside an hour to watch a couple episodes of “Friends” or even just sending some funny snaps (which, trust me, I know you can do). Breaking up the work will help keep you sane and it’ll be what you can look forward to after you finish that dreadful U.S. History Study Guide or English Paper. So always make sure to leave room for that extra game of fetch with the dog or extra movie night with mom, because those are the moments you’ll remember 30 years down the road.

Remember that there is more to life than just high school, but live in the moment while you’re there. One day you’ll look back and wish that you could play one more game on that home court or get dressed up for one more prom or homecoming. I get that high school sucks, I wasn’t its biggest fan either, but some parts are better than others and those are the ones you need to focus on. Make the most out of the days you have left within the walls of the high school and appreciate the teachers that have a love for their students that you can’t find anywhere else. Take pictures, involve yourself in everything you can and capture every moment you can in one way or another.

Finally, don’t ever let any boy dull your sparkle, no matter how sparkly or handsome he may be. Even if he looks like Zac Efron or Channing Tatum, it’s still not ok to ever let a man (or boy for that matter) belittle you or make you feel as though you’re not good enough. You are a strong, independent young woman who shines like the sun after a storm with the work ethic of a Stanford medical student. You deserve someone who sees you this way, too, and is always open to trying one of the numerous new recipes you found on Pinterest, watching endless reruns of "Friends” or “The Big Bang Theory” or listening to all the science/medical mumbo jumbo that makes you happy. Always remember that a man may try and convince you that he is the sun, and your life revolves around him, but my darling, he is so wrong. You are the sun, and you deserve to shine as bright as you desire.

So as you move on to bigger and better things in your life, always remember that your life only began when you turned 16 and the best is yet to come. You will do amazing things and make amazing memories, all because you are an amazing person. Never forget the strength you have inside of you and the courage you’ve acquired. I love you mucho!

Forever and Always,

Your Big Sis

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
