A Letter To My Heroes

You are my heroes and I cannot imagine a life without you, nor do I want to. I love you both forever and a day.

A Letter To My Heroes
Caitlin Yannizzi

Dear Nana and Papa,

"Thank you" does not even begin to express the amount of gratitude I owe the two of you. When I wake up every morning and then again when I lay my head down on my pillow to sleep, I am certain that no matter how big or little of a difference I made in the world on that particular day, you would still be proud of me, and you were still my biggest fans. Because of you, I am not afraid to make mistakes as I know that you will be there to hold me when it all comes crashing down. Not only are you there for the bad times, but you are there for me when everything's going right, waiting with endless amounts of affection to reassure me that all of my hard work has paid off.

Papa, you taught me what it means to stay determined and focused, and how rewarding it feels when you can see the physical effect you left on the world and the smiling faces that come from it. Your bravery is inspiring and you show me the importance of living life to the fullest and never taking a moment for granted because tomorrow is not promised. You are the father I never had and took over his role willingly and perfectly and I am forever grateful for that.

Nana, you are the kindest, most caring and warm-hearted woman I know, and I hope to grow up to be just as calm and passionate as you. Whenever I have a bad day the only person I want to talk to is you because you always know the right thing to say and you have the perfect remedy for a turning a frown into a smile. I would not trade anything in the world for our Lifetime movie dates or our shared love of Gilmore Girls, Seventh Heaven, One Tree Hill and 90210.

You are more than my grandparents, you are my best friends. Without you, I would not be who I am today, and that is what makes you two of the most important people in my life. Jaxon, Lucas and I are beyond lucky to get to call you our nana and papa and have two of the most amazing people setting forth the footsteps of our futures. Thank you for helping me grow and live out all of my dreams. And no matter how crazy my ideas are, I am thankful for you both always supporting them and cheering me on day after day. You are my heroes and I can not imagine a life without you, nor do I want to. I love you both forever and a day. Always have, always will.

Sincerely,

Your Pudding Pop,

Xoxo

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
