An Open Letter To My Guy Best Friend’s Future Wives

Congratulations on your future wedding, I hope I didn't embarass your husbands too much in my inevitable toast. You have managed to tie down some of the most important people in my life. The ones I go to for anything and everything, and now they're yours to lean on too. I want you to understand a few things about these boys. You are being blessed with endless side pinching laughs, and you will probably be more frustrated than you have ever been, but it is worth it. These guys are worth it. Here are a few things you should know about them

  1. I hope by now their taste buds have matured, but if by chance they haven’t, just know if you’re out of ideas on what to make for dinner, mozzarella sticks and pizza will make them happy.
  2. Don’t ever question them on sports, especially hockey, unless you know your stuff, they will shut you down so hard.
  3. Be prepared to know everything about everyone that lives in their small town up north, you will feel like you grew up there due to the amount they talk about it. But listen to them, they need to be listened to, even when they try to say they’re from Boston, just smile and nod.
  4. Jam out with them as much as possible. Simple Plan, Mike Stud, even Ke$ha…they love to know every word and aren’t afraid to belt it, but don’t you dare change the song if they have aux.
  5. Their anger is 99% of the time temporary and can be fixed with distance and a Coors Light.
  6. They were raised well, even if they don’t show it sometimes. Their hearts are kind through all their eye-rolls and “shut up idiots” followed by a smile. On the days you doubt if they care, they will always reassure you in some small way that they do.
  7. Sometimes they shut the door and don’t come out for a while. Give them that space, don’t knock, just go be yourself for a little and the door will open again.
  8. They really like to play basketball at 3 am and throw the ball at your head.
  9. Amusement parks. Major key. Go to them.
  10. Record everything. Every moment that happens to you make sure you keep a copy of that memory, you won't want to lose it. And there is nothing better than watching the sacred pieces of your life with the person that matters most. (They also embarrass themselves a lot when drunk so never forget to record that either.)
  11. Just know you are about to be married to some of the best people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They are sarcastic, impatient, hilarious, caring, sometimes stupid, but above all they are my boys, and now they are yours. I also realize I could possibly be writing a letter to myself, but for now, treat them with all the care you have in your heart, and in their own way they will always show it back.

With Love,

The girl who tried to teach them everything she could.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
