Dear Best Friend,
As we are entering our SIXTH year of friendship, I thought I would thank you for a few things along the way…
First of all, thank you being my friend. This seems obvious, but you easily could have stopped being my friend at any time. And we all know that middle school is a rough time, so thanks for sticking with me through that mess.
Thanks for including me in your family. Whether you know this or not, I really feel like I am a part of your family. I love your brothers, who I have watched grow up these past years. It is kinda crazy that the boys that once used to go to daycare every day now go to middle school and are capable of real conversations with me (though they try to avoid that for the most part). I love your mom, who acted like my mom on our trips to foreign places and who genuinely cares about me, takes me with you to fun places, and talks to us about anything. I love your dad, who is so funny and has similar humor to us, and makes me laugh every time I come over. Thanks for including me in all of this.
Thank you for listening. Every time I text you paragraphs about how my day was bad or about how I am angry at someone or I want to excitedly tell you about my life, you are always there. You are excited with me, angry with me, and tell me when I am being irrational (which happens a lot I’ll admit), and I appreciate it.
Thank you for being honest with me. Like I said, you tell me when I am being irrational, you tell me when I am being judgemental, and you tell me when I am not myself. I also want to thank you for being honest about what you think of my outfit, and what you think of my taste in music, etc etc etc. Your opinion means a lot to me because I know it’s genuine. Also, thank you for telling me when you want to spend time with your family instead, or you need a nap after work, or you’re super excited to hang out. Telling the truth all the time makes it much more exciting when you say you can’t wait for me to be home because I know you mean it.
Thank you for understanding. You know when I’m feeling anxious and how to help me calm down. You understand my insecurities and help build me up. You know that college can be hard and you help me get back on track and in the zone.
Maybe one of the most important thank yous is thanks for sending me memes and tagging me in them. I love everytime I get 10 images from you and I get to scroll through and laugh at all the weird, oddly specific jokes. It reminds me that at least I have one friend with my weird sense of humor.
Most importantly though, thanks for being you. Ew I know it’s cliché and extra, but really. Our personalities blend so well together and I can’t imagine you any other way. You’re fun, energetic, and love to do the same things I do. Your passion and happiness spreads more than you know and I love hanging out with you!! I can’t wait to see you in 4 days (but who’s counting)!!
Miss you tons,
Your bff
