Dear Future Self,

How old are you now? 21? Maybe 40? I'm sure you are reflecting back on this every few years looking at where you are now.

How has life turned out for you? Have you achieved all you wanted to or are you still working towards your goals? It seems I already have a pretty good idea about where I want to be in the next 4 to 8 years, but things can change and you are and have adjusted to those changes. Did you finally get that dog you wanted?

I sure hope you did, I know how much you were looking forward to that cute german shepherd with its head tilted to the right as you say his name and he looks at you with that puzzling look. Where are you living now? Did you get that cute apartment over looking the water or are you still day dreaming about the house with the porch, with the porch swing, overlooking acres of land watching the horses in the back round. Are you happy?

When you were a little girl you had such big aspirations and were very independent. A kind-hearted little girl with a little spunk in her. Someone who was eager to please others and had the patience and compassion to listen to others. When you read this, remember those qualities.

Remember that times get tough and you have already overcome many obstacles on this road we call life. I can guarantee you have experienced even more now that you're reading this than when you were 18. You were so young.

When you look back at this, you may shed a tear or chuckle a laugh as I hope to remind you of all the memories you have made in these last 18 years. Times of enjoyment and times of growth. I have no doubt you are successful. You were always so determined to be something. What did you become? I know you had so many things in mind.

Where is your family? Did your brother reach his goals? Did your dad retire and move mom and him out to that dream house on the water like they had always hoped to do? I hope everything is how you dreamed it would be, and even if it isn't... I know you are making the most out of the situation.

Don't forget about me and come back in a few years. These are questions you can always look back on and relate where you are today. You will recall memories from your younger years and look back at what you thought life would be. I truly hope it is everything you have ever dreamed of.

Love,

18 year old you

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
