A Letter To Everybody Starting The Disney College Program

Dear new CP,

I am sure that your mind is filled with a variety of emotions: excitement, nervousness, the whole nine-yards. I was in your position not too long ago, and I am here to tell you that your life is about to change.

You are going to learn so much during your first week, you won't be able to grasp it. You will learn fun facts about your work location, maybe even some secrets. You will finally get a better understanding of "The Four Keys," and you will start to incorporate them into your own life, whether you realize it or not. You will understand how Disney runs things, and why the company is so successful.

Once your training is over, you will learn ways to make your job fit your personality. Whether it is telling sarcastic, corny jokes, or carrying around an autograph book for guests to sign (since they are royalty, of course), you can make your job fun. You are going to have days where everything feels like it is going wrong, but just try your best and keep a smile on your face, because tomorrow is another day.

You are going to see thousands of people each day. You are going to have at least one instance where you really connect with a guest, and you might feel the tears welling. You are going to meet all kinds of people, from celebrities, to people with heart-warming stories, and so many more in between.

You are going to meet people from all over the world. You are even going to work with people from all over the world. You will spend your breaks with them chatting about their cultures, and you might even become close with them.

But one day, it will all be gone.

You will wake up in your bed in your hometown and realize that you are no longer surrounded by magic, and you most likely will not see half of your coworkers ever again, so please, cherish every single moment of your program.

Cherish the times you are in a rotation that you do not particularly favor. No matter how slow time passes, appreciate every second in that rotation, and do not hope that time will go by faster, because I promise, one day you will wish you were back in "Fastpass Merge" or "Load 2." Do not let a negative comment ruin your entire day: you have pleased hundreds of people, do not let a singular Negative-Nelly put you down.

Your life is about to change. You are going to leave this program as a completely different person than when you came in. If you take the program seriously, you will be a more educated, more professional individual than ever before. You will have so much knowledge on different cultures and random facts. You will feel more mature, because, even though you make your job fun, it can be difficult. You will have explored so many places, and have so many stories to tell. You will meet some interesting people, some will give you advice that will stay in your thoughts for the rest of your life.

Nothing will compare to the first time that you go to Magic Kingdom as a Cast Member, and you stare at the castle with wide-eyes, realizing that this is now your home. You will fall in love with all of the night time shows, even the ones that you never cared for in the past. A lot of people think that working for Disney will "ruin the magic," but you are creating the magic, so you have extra pixie dust. The small, often skipped over, attractions become more meaningful to you, and you start to appreciate everything that Disney has to offer.

I know you feel overwhelmed right now, but just take a deep breath, and enjoy every second of this. Make sure to take every opportunity you have to try new things, because adventure is out there, friends.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
