To My Spring 2018 Professors, I'm Excited To Meet You

After a month of relaxation, it's time to grind.

To my Spring 2018 professors,

First off, howdy! In exactly one week, I will sit down in your lecture hall, classroom, or open the first online module in ecampus for your class. Whether you are a major course, a core curriculum requirement, or just a class I thought would be fun, I am very excited to be learning from you.

Before we start the semester, there are a few things I would like to let you know.

As happy as I am to be back at my university, I can't say that I haven't enjoyed my winter break. Needless to say, the fall semester was incredibly taxing on my mental and physical health. I don't think I have ever been so stressed in my entire life, or cried more in a 4-month period (seriously, I just about bawled in front of a poor Starbucks barista during finals week).

After a month of sleeping, relaxing, eating like a normal person should, seeing my family, and sleeping some more, I am more than ready to take this semester by storm. This my dear professor, is where you come in, as you are an integral part of my success this semester. With your help and guidance, I know we can both have a successful next four months.

While I will give my all to your class, there are going to be days where I am tired, and days where I am just flat out struggling, as I'm sure you have experienced (I'm talking to you, 8 am classes). This won't mean that I don't care about your class, it just means I have a lot on my plate. I want you to know that being taught by you is something that I hold very dear to my heart.

Being a college student is difficult at times, and I'm sure you remember the days where you were stressed about midterms and writing papers, all while trying to figure out how to make $12 last until your next paycheck. Just like you, we have lives outside of the classroom, and we're doing the best we can to juggle everything that life throws at us.

I am one of those students who doesn't like to procrastinate, and I anticipate that I will come to you with lots of questions, especially about assignments that probably aren't due for another 3 months. I am a very enthusiastic learner, and I want to be as passionate about your class as you are.

At the end of it all, whether I'm taking your class as a requirement or out of curiosity, I am so very excited about spending the semester with you, I can't wait for all that I have to learn. I am ready to be challenged, taught, and pushed beyond my limits once again.

Sincerely,

Your ecstatic, Spring 2018 student

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
